Each Number corresponds to a location in the Snake Pit. Can you find them all??
1. Humans with some resources can retreat into the wild, but it won’t take long until neighbors and marauding bands find them.
2. Glaciers are melting at unprecedented rates leading to higher sea levels and more powerful storms. Glacial release of CO2 accelerates this process.
3. Over 200 million humans were endangered by the 2019 flooding which wiped out millions of acres of US farmland. Farms in Africa and the Middle East are experiencing the worst locust swarms in over 20 years!
4. Currently there are over 1,500 known oil leaks across the United states!
5. The 2018 California Camp Fire and the 2020 Australian bushfires destroyed entire towns, biomes, and species. Together, these destroyed forests emitted over 300 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. It will take generations to regrow these forests to their prior CO2-sequestering abilities.
6. CO2 levels today are higher than at any point in at least the past 800,000 years.
7. Rising sea temperatures, overfishing, and pollution have endangered every body of water on this planet!
8. Since 2004, an oil rig 12 miles off the Louisiana coast has been releasing nearly 4,500 gallons of oil a day. Fishermen continue to describe the loss as “tragic.”
9. 14 billion pounds of trash is dumped into the ocean every year!
10. Over 480 million humans will be affected by rising sea levels. A large-scale human migration to escape resource hoarding and climate change is already underway.
11. Migrant women and girls pay extra for passage with their bodies.
12. In the past 20 years, an over 40,000 humans have been reported dead or missing while trying to reach safer, more hospitable areas. But most countries do not record this data.
13. A better world is possible. It would take a lot of work and a lot of imagination, but it would be the greatest achievement of humanity.
14. The richest, most powerful humans on the planet prefer to use their wealth for trips to space.
15. All there is left to do is to continue our linage of destruction?
All the reasons for making a revolution are there, not one is lacking. The shipwreck of politics, the arrogance of the powerful, the reign of falsehood, the vulgarity of the wealthy, the cataclysms of industry, galloping misery, naked exploitation, ecological apocalypse. We are spared nothing, not even being informed about it.
